General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi said that there had so far been many expecting NU not to be in unity and a big power. For him the NU's unity and power would allegedly be accused of being able to disrupt their interests.

According to Hasyim those willing to split NU would create such politics-based conflicts within NU circles. At least the conflicts could be seen within the National Awakening Party (PKB).<>

Once we mention NU, all world (communities) will know," Hasyim said, adding that there had been many NU special branch boards in many countries in the world. "So there are many whose interest with NU both positively and negatively."

Hasyim made the remark as speaking before ulemas and clerics (kiai) of the Muhaimin Iskandar-led PKB at the PBNU's headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday (27/5) evening.

He said there were such awkwardness in the national political system for the PKB whose clearly main supporters, namely Nahdliyin (NU followers) across the country had 52 seats only in the House.

Hasyim who is also the leader of Al Hikam Islamic boarding school (Pesantren), Malang, East Java added, the PKB should have more than 100 seats as gained by the Golkar Party and Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).

While Muhaimin who had formerly held closed meeting with Hasyim said that the PBNU had expected himself to improve both the system and organization within the PKB.

In addition, Muhaimin said, the PBNU had also hoped all legal products enacted by in the House through the PKB could be appropriate with NU interests

"Pak Hasyim also hoped Islamic boarding schools could benefit over the existence of the PKB. Besides, the hierarchy of NU cadres in the PKB would also be guaranteed," the deputy speaker of the House said. (rif)
