Two Palestinian teenaged siblings and two resistance fighters were killed in a new wave of Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, officials said.

Omar al-Nuri, 17, and his 15-year-old sister Kiffah were killed when the Israeli air forces fired a missile while they were trying to flee an Israeli tank near their house in the Egyptian border town of Rafah.

Another Israeli air strike killed two fighters believed to belong to the Islamic Jihad movement.

Omar and Kiffah’s mother Huda, 45, and another family member were seriously wounded, while a third member was slightly injured in the attack, according to hospital officials.

Officials say that at least a dozen Palestinians have died over the past 72 hours as a result of Israel’s indiscriminate bombing that targets civilian areas. And the UN says that at least 35 children died in attacks Israel launched during the past month alone.

About 150 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have died since the Israeli unjustified offensive broke out in Gaza following the capture of Cpl Gilad Shalit by a group of Palestinian fighters.

The Israel onslaught in Gaza has inflicted serious damage on the city’s infrastructure, destroying its sole power plant, and sparking warnings of a humanitarian catastrophe.

"The United Nations humanitarian agencies working in the occupied Palestinian territory are deeply alarmed by the impact continuing violence is having on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Gaza," the United Nations said in a statement issued yesterday. (alj/dar)
