Different views among Muslims in Indonesia on the branches of religious matters (furu'iyyah) like matters pertaining to prayer ritual have so far been on the right track. Yet there have been always those whose blind fanaticism by questioning rituals of other Muslim group.
The latest case having ever caused social unrest is the presence of a book that criticizes the ritual of Nahdliyin (NU followers) in East Java. Ironically the book written by "ex-cleric" of NU is also 'supported' by a member of Muhammadiyah.<>
General Secretary of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Dr. Endang Turmudi made the remark as speaking at a seminar attended by NU-Muhammadiyah youth cadres at the PBNU headquarters in Jakarta on Saturday (17/5).
"There have always been individuals whipping up blind fanaticism that leads to social unrest. I hope young circles not to meet its effect and keep concentrating on important issues related to the nation's future," Endang said.
In the meantime, Endang expect the collaboration among Islamic organizations especially PBNU and Central Board of Muhammadiyah could be followed up through any purposeful activities in regions throughout the country.
While Minister of National Education Prof. Dr. Bambang Sudibyo who is also one of Muhammadiyah chairmen expressed his proup of the efforts of NU-Muhammadiyah young cadres in cultivating synergy to think about the nation's problems.
The seminar was attended by youth organizations from NU and Muhammadiyah like NU Students association (IPNU), NU Girl Students Association (IPPNU), Muhammadiyah Adolescent Association ( IRM), Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM). (nam)
