The official site of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama, NU Online in collaboration with Institute of Indonesian Muslim Artists and Culturalists (Lesbumi) and National Civilization Council will conduct a public dialog on “Gossip News: New Era Tyranny?” at the Pusat Gedung Film, Jln MT Haryono Jakarta, Thursday (10/8).
The edict (fatwa) was one of subject matters discussed by NU ulemas at a national ulema meeting in Surabaya on last July 27-30. The fatwa has recently remained controversial among people especially for those supporting the existence of the “infotainment” shows.
<>“It is asked, why did NU handle trivial matters like the gossip news. We want to put proportionally the matter by taking up the “infotainment” based on any perspective,” said M Dienaldo, the Secretary General of Lesbumi.“Mass media, entertainment and whatever business should contribute in national character building that we need,” he added.
Scores on speakers will reportedly talk about the sensitive issue such as Prof Dr KH Said Aqil Siradj (chairman of PBNU), retired General Wiranto, Hand Miller (Indonesian Journalists Association/PWI), Prof Dr Abdul Hadi WM (culturalist), Dedy Mizwar (senior artist) and Taufiq Hidayat (athlete).
Artists such as Didi Petet, Nani Wijaya, Dian Sastrowardoyo and Dedi Gumelar will reportedly come to the forum. (nam)
