As the country’s largest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) needs to put matters pertaining to artists as the most important field to undertake social religious services. As a religious organization, NU has not fully campaigned “Nusantara’s culture”.
The statement above was said by a pesantren’s novelist Ahmad Tohari in a NU Online’s monthly discussion entitled: “Pesantren’s Man of Letters to See Nusantara’s Reality”, in PBNU Building, Jakarta, Friday (30/6).
<>Tohari said that the Nusantara’s earlier Muslims have enthusiastically paid more attention to traditional artistic. Recently it has been vanished by many things especially the emerging of rigid and arabized Islamic interpretation.
“What actually we need in NU community is how to give such an opportunity to artists and cultural observer, say that we conduct NU activities dealing with artistic from national scale to village. hopefully, there will be such a change of mind, so that we can maintain matters of artistic as before,” Tohari said.
The Islamic artistic, according to Tohari, should not be considered as kasidah, hadrah, nasyid, so on as that usually conducted in the mosques and religious gathering.
The forum was also attended by Danarto, Ray Sahetapy, Rahardi, Binhad Nurrohmad, Dienaldo, and so forth. (nam)
