KH Yahya Cholil Staquf elected as general chairman of PBNU 2021-2026

KH Yahya Cholil Staquf was appointed as the General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) 2021-2026. This was decided after obtaining the most votes from the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Managements (PWNU), Nahdlatul Ulama Branch Managements (PCNU), and Nahdlatul Ulama Special Branch Managements (PCINU).

 

The decision was made at the Plenary Session V led by the chairman and secretary of the Steering Committee for the NU 34th Congress Prof Muhammad Nuh and H Asrorun Niam Sholeh at the Multipurpose Building (GSG) University of Lampung (Unila) on Friday (12/24/2021).

 

"KH. Yahya Cholil Staquf has been appointed as the general chairman of PBNU for the solemn period of 2021-(2026)," said Nuh while tapping the hammer.

 

"Al-Fatihah," added the PBNU chairman 2015-2021.

 

KH Yahya Cholil Staquf took the lead with 337 votes, while KH Said Aqil Siroj took the next position with 210 votes. There was one vote that abstained. This means that there are 548 votes. The total number of votes was read by Prof. M. Noah.

 

Previously, in the number of votes in the first round, KH Yahya Cholil Staquf led by getting 327 votes. Meanwhile, KH Said Aqil Siroj was in the next position with 203 votes, then followed by KH As'ad Said Ali getting 17 votes.

 

It should be noted that due to the fact that KH As'ad Said Ali's number of votes was below 99 votes, he could not continue in the second round of elections.

 

Previously, in the same place, on Thursday (23/12/2021), KH Miftachul Akhyar was re-appointed as Rais 'Aam (the supreme leader) of PBNU by the so-called Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi (Ahwa), consisting of 9 clerics (kiai).
