Saudi to call on NU to strengthen Sunni school of thought

Jakarta, NU Online The cooperation between the government of Saudi Arabia and the nahdliyin organization, Nahdlatul Ulama is now being developed. In addressing the need, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Religious, Wakaf, and Preaching Affairs, Syeikh Sholeh bin Abdul Aziz called on the organization to strengthen Sunni school of thought. During his visit to the NU office on Tuesday (6/3), Syeikh Sholeh admitted that NU as the Indonesia’s biggest Muslim organization had played important roles in developing Islamic preaching and mission in both national and international level.

NU-Iran to agree to reduce Middle East conflict

Jakarta, NU Online The country’s largest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in collaboration with Iran has agreed to reduce Middle East sectarian conflict between Sunni and Shi’ite. Both are determined to be in unity under the umbrella of what called as ukhuwah Islamiyah (Islamic brotherhood).    The statement above was said by the General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) at the NU office on Tuesday (6/3) following his meeting with Iran Supreme Court Syeikh Ayatllah Syahroudi in Tehran several days ago.

Quito, NU Online Ecuador reiterated on Monday it has the sovereign right to close the Manta military base, where US troops are deployed, in 2009, when the deal with the US is due to expire. Leeds, NU Online The UK Minority Faiths Advisor of the Department of Communities & Local Government Maqsood Ahmed OBE said here on Friday that his department was aimed at developing in which Muslims in the UK should feel part of a wider Britist society, actively condemn extremism and put in place diversionary and deradicalization activity for at risk group. Dealing with the terorist attacks on 7 and 21 July 2005, he suggested that the authorities would take purposeful measures in addressing the issue of extremism by setting up the national forum on extremism and Islamophobia, holding country-wide roadshows of religious scholars and establishing the national advisory council of imams and mosques.

Iran, Sudan Condemn Western Efforts Linking Terrorisme to Islam

Tehran, NU Online  In a joint statement at the end of a two-day summit in Khartoum on Thursday, the Islamic states of Iran and Sudan condemned any Western efforts to link terrorism to Islam. While stressing that terrorism in all forms and under all pretexts should be condemned and confronted, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and President Omar Hassan al-Bashir called for a "precise and transparent" definition of terrorism.
