RI sees better relations with a Rudd Australia

Jakarta, NU Online President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono became the first world's leader to congratulate Labor Party leader Kevin Rudd as the new Australian prime minister, with analysts predicting better bilateral relations between the two countries in the future. "We welcome the election of Kevin Rudd. President Yudhoyono has called him to convey his congratulations. Both leaders agreed to cooperate to constructively improve both countries' bilateral relations," Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman Kristiarto Soeryo Legowo said.

Hasyim Muzadi: Rudd would improve Australians’ view on Islam

Jakarta, NU Online General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi said here on Monday that Kevin Rudd’s election victory last Saturday as a new prime minister would be able to improve Australians’ view on Islam in the beloved country of ours. He suggested that at least the newly prime minister would give positive impact for the Labor Party as Rudd’s political career had ever rejected Australia to send its troops to Iraq.

RI to plan 89 m trees ahead of UNCFCCC

Medan, NU Online The Indonesian government and people will plant 89 million trees across the country ahead of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to be held in Bali on Dec 3-14, a minister said. "In the runup to the UNFCCC in Bali, 79 million trees will  simultaneously be planted on 150 hectares of land across Indonesia on Nov 28, 2007," Forestry Minister MS Kaban said here on Thursday.

Jakarta, NU Online Religious Affairs Minister Maftuh Basyuni and Transportation Minister Jusman Syafii Djamal saw off the first batch of Indonesian haj pilgrims who left for Medina, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday. Besides that group, consisting of 450 people, a total of 3,490 people were also scheduled to depart on Saturday for the religious journey from 11 departure centers including Jakarta, Banda Aceh, Padang, Palembang, Solo, Banjarmasin, Balikpapan andMakasar.
