PBNU: Misleading sects emerge caused by leadership crisis

Gresik, NU Online General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi has said that the misleading sects having been recently coming into existence were caused by leadership crisis that tend to have paid no more attention to people (ummat). Hasyim whom is President of the World Conference on Religions for Peace made the remark after delifering religious sermon on an occasion of what called as Haul Sunan Perapen in Kelangonan Village, Kebomas District, Gresik Regency, East Java on Saturday.

Indonesia should encourage Fatah and Hamas to unite

Malang, NU Online General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), KH Hasyim Muzadi has expressed his hope that the Indonesian government would use the visit of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to Indonesia on Monday (Oct. 22) to encourage Fatah and Hamas to unite. "Many Islamic countries strongly support the struggle of the Palestinian people. However, the key for the Palestinian independence is the unity of Hamas and Fatah, in addition to concrete support from Arab nations," he said here on Sunday.

Police chief asks all parties to understand forced evacuation

Kediri, NU Online National Police Chief Gen Sutanto has called on all parties to understand the forced evacuation by armed personnel of people living in the vicinity of erupting Mount Kelud in East Java. "All parties should understand the effort because the real situation in the areas around the volcano required the armed personnel do so," Sutanto said as he visited the evacuees at Segaran Elementary school in Wates, Kediri, on Friday.

President calls for distribution of masks to residents arount Mt Kelud

Jakarta, NU Online President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Wednesday asked East Java Governor Imam Utomo to distribute masks among residents living on the slope of rumbling Mount Kelud in Kediri district. "I want the masks made available in large numbers and distributed among residents living around the volcano," the head of state said in a dialog with provincial police chiefs at the Indonesian Police Headquarters here Wednesday.
