President to attend writing of holy Qur'an of Mushaf Al Bantani in Serang

Serang, NU Online President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and some ministers are scheduled to arrive in Serang, Banten Province, for attending the commemoration of the Nuzulul Quran and the start of Al-Bantani Mushaf Quran writing on Monday afternoon. "The President is slated to attend the event, and for sure Minister for Religious Affairs Maftuh Basyuni has been confirmed to join the occasion," spokesman of the Banten Provincial Administration Eneng Nurcahyati said here on Monday.

NU urges Myanmar ruling junta to refrain from force

Jakarta, NU Online The Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) has urged Myanmar’s ruling junta to immediately refrain from force to thousands of Myanmar Buddhist monks and people marching through Yangon, Myanmar late Monday. The PBNU believed the protesters that most of them are monks would not make riots. “In accordance with the Buddha teachings, it is likely impossible that the monks would do anarchy in the demonstration. That is why, we firmly call on the military violence to soon be ended,” General Chairman of the PBNU KH Hasyim muzadi said at a press conference here on Thursday (27/9).

Jakarta, NU Online Residents of Sidoardjo, East Java, filed a judicial review with the Supreme Court on Tuesday against the 2007 presidential decree establishing the Sidoardjo Mudflow Mitigation Agency, particularly Article 15 on the procurement of land and property affected by the mud. Coordinator of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation team representing the residents, Taufik Basari, said the article in question violated the 1960 Agrarian Law.

UN chief to build momentum for climate change talks in Bali

Jakarta, NU Online The Indonesian Religious Affairs Ministry has rented 367 houses in Saudi Arabia to accommodate 194 Indonesian haj pilgrims in the 2007 haj pilgrimage, an official said. "For the accommodation of Indonesian haj pilgrims in Mecca, the distance from the Haram Mosque is about 500 meters to 2,000 meters, the rented houses are located in Syi’ib Amir, Ja’fariyah, Jumeizah, Sulaimaniah, Syamsiah, Jarwal, Hafair, Misfalah and Jiad Sud. While,  those located in Mahbas Jin Aziziah have a distance of about 2,500 meters from the Mosque," Zakaria Ashar, the ministry?s director in charge of haj and umroh (minor haj) pilgrimage said here on Wednesday.

House speaker calls for priority for schools and health facilities

Bengkulu, NU Online Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Agung Laksono has asked for a priority for   schools and health facilities in the reconstruction efforts after the recent quake in Bengkulu. "An emergency response effort is currently still being carried out and it will last for two weeks. A recovery effort will be made after valid data have been collected.
