Jakarta, NU Online The display of the separatist Papua Free Organization`s flag had no relation with the unferling of the banned Republic of South Maluku (RMS)`s flag on June 29, 2007, an official has said. "The meeting of the Papuan Customary Council (DAP) had been scheduled earlier and the activity should have received a permit from the local police," Secretary to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Lt Gen Agustadi Sasongko Purnomo said here Wednesday.

Lapindo fails in making compensation payments to mudflow victims

PT Minarak Lapindo Jaya as subsidiary of Lapindo Brantas, on Monday afternoon paid an accommodating fund of Rp 100 billion to Bank Mandiri and BNI to be used as advance compensation payments to the victims.

Jakarta, NU Online The legal commission of the House of Representatives should set a clear selection criteria for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) membership and members of the commission should be made accountable to the public, the Indonesian Corruption Watch Team said. A selection committee formed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will soon shortlist 10 candidates for KPK and from there the House's Commission III will select five people via a "fit and proper test" to make up the next anticorruption commission.

Lapindo makes advance payments to mudflow victims

Jakarta, NU Online PT Minarak Lapindo Jaya said it was making advance payments to all mudflow victims whose certificates had been verified, a spokesman of the company said on Wednesday. "Today the advance payments are being made. Thus, all the 507 verified certificates of the mudflow victims are in the hands of PT Minarak and have been paid for," Vice President of PT Minarak Lapindo Jaya, Andi Darussalam Tabusala, said.

House speaker: Lapindo mudflow victims need compensation soon

Jakarta, NU Online House Speaker Agung Laksono said that he appreciated President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s attention to settling the Lapindo mudflow victims` problems by visiting and taking office in the mudflow location for three days but the important thing for the victims was the settlement of the compensation problem. "The situation I saw there is really saddening," he said at the House of Representatives (DPR) building commenting on the protracted compensation problem for victims of the Lapindo mudflow which had been taking place for over one year.
