Indonesia proposes Muslim-led intervention force for chaotic Iraq

Bandung, NU OnlineIndonesia says a military force from predominantly Muslim countries should be deployed in Iraq before the United States withdraws. The recommendation is part of a larger proposal to resolve the conflict in the war-torn country. Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda said like-minded moderate Islamic countries acceptable to the Iraqis should contribute to the "intervening force", whose deployment should not be seen as an extension of the U.S.-led coalition troops or Iraqi security forces.

NU LAZIZ-Telkomsel to reconstruct pesantren in Nias

Jakarta, NU OnlineFollowing its successful in reconstructing Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Aceh, the country’s largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) through its Committee of Zakat, Infaq, and Shadaqah (NU LAZIZ) in collaboration with PT Telkomsel would take the same actions in Nias, North Sumatra. “We (NU LAZIZ, red) have four programs, namely education, health, economy, and social. Telkomsel would take part in supporting one of our four programs that is reconstructing Islamic boarding school-based education in Nias,” the NU Laziz secretary, Mabroer MS told NU Online at the NU office, Jalan Kramat Raya, Jakarta, Tuesday (5/12).

Lapindo eventually meets victims' demand for compensation

Sidoarjo, NU OnlineThe management of PT. Lapindo Brantas eventually was able to meet the demand of mudflow-affected residents from four villages in Sidoardjo district for a compesation of Rp1,5 million/m2 of building and Rp1 million/m2 of land of their houses and Rp120/m2 of farmland. The final decision was warmly welcomed  by Lapindo mud victims who were accommodated at the hall of Sidoarjo administration office on Monday afternoon.

Surabaya, NU OnlineGeneral Chairman of the country's largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) KH Hasyim Muzadi received on Saturday (2/12) an honorary degree of Doctor Honoris Causa in the field of Islamic civilization from Sunan Ampel State Islamic institute in Surabaya. Rector Ridlwan Nasir said that Hasyim deserved the degree for his contribution to the science of Islamic civilization, which had been recognized both at home and overseas.

At present, many have questioned negative impacts as a result of the "Smack Down" show aired by a privately-run television station following a number of injuries and possibly a death among children. Lapindo to continue bearing costs of mitigating Sidoarjo mud flow

Jakarta, NU OnlinePrivate oil and gas drilling company PT Lapindo Brantas Inc. will continue to  bear all the costs to tackle the impact of the uncontrollable mudflow in Sidoardjo although there are proposals that the government bail the company out, a cabinet minister said. Public Works Minister Joko Kirmanto made the statement after meeting  Vice President Jusuf Kalla in the company of Marine Resources and Fisheries Minister Freddy Numberi to report on the work of the Sidoarjo mudflow mitigation team.

Jakarta, NU OnlineGeneral Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi admitted that he personally was not appropriate to receive the honorary degree of Doctor Honoris Causa from the State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Sunan Ampel Surabaya. “The (honorary) degree should be ideally given to Kiai Hasyim (KH Hasyim Asy’ari) and Kiai Wahab (KH Wahab Hasbullah),” said Hasyim while speaking at a meeting held by the Jakarta’s NU Women Organization (Muslimat NU) in Jakarta on Wednesday (29/11).

Jakarta, NU OnlineOnce again, General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi has asserted that NU wouldn’t involve itself in a new political group called as the Ulema National Awakening Party (PKNU). “PBNU won’t involve in it (PKNU), do not ask me about it,”Hasyim said while speaking at a meeting held by Jakarta’s NU Women Organization (Muslimat NU) in Jakarta on Wednesday (29/11).
