Lesbumi NU to revive preaching concepts of Sunan Kalijaga

Demak, NU Online The success of peaceful preaching conducted by the nine saints (wali songo) in Indonesia and and having successfully islamized people in the archipelago without violence should be revived in the midst of chaotic conditions in the name of religion. One of the nine saints, Sunan Kalijaga for instance, he began preaching through any medium such as puppet (wayang) and (musical composition for) gamelan to spread directly Islamic teachings to local society.

House speaker calls for priority for schools and health facilities

Bengkulu, NU Online Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Agung Laksono has asked for a priority for   schools and health facilities in the reconstruction efforts after the recent quake in Bengkulu. "An emergency response effort is currently still being carried out and it will last for two weeks. A recovery effort will be made after valid data have been collected. I hope important facilities such as schools and healthcare centers and bridges would be given a priority in the efforts," he said here on Tuesday.

Pangkalpinang signs MoU sister-school relationship with Malaysia

Pangkalpinang, NU Online Pangkalpinang city on Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the establishment of a sister-school relatinship between one of its elementary schools and a similar school in Petaling in the Malaysian state of Selangor, a local official said. "A group from the neighboring country is in Pangkalpinang from Friday (June 22) to Saturday (June 23) to materialise the sister- school cooperation between the Malaysian elementary school in Petaling, Selangor state, and State Elementary School (SDN) 3 in Pangkalpinang," the city`s mayor, H Zulkarnain Karim, said here Saturday.

PPP cadres protest government's support for Iran resolution

Surabaya, NU Online Hundreds of United Development Party (PPP) cadres staged a rally outside the East Java governor’s office here on Friday protesting against the government’s decision to support the UN  Security Council resolution imposing tougher sanctions on Iran over its controversial nuclear program. As reported by Antara news agency, the protesters earlier marched from Jalan Kombes M Duryat to the governor’s office, carrying a number of posters which among others read "Sever  Indonesian-US  ties", and "Condemn SBY for his support for UN Security Council Resolution 1747".
