Joint Peaceful Campaigns Declared

Jakarta, NU Online The leaders of political parties which will participate in next year`s general election gathered at Jln Imam Bonjol in Jakarta to meet the General Election Commission`s (KPU) invitation to declare their joint peaceful campaign. A number of the party leaders like Agung Laksono of the Golkar Party, Pramono Agung of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Ali Masykur Musa of the National Awakening Party of Parung version, Anas Urbaningrum of the Democrat Party, MS Kaban of the Star Crescent Party, Eros Djarot of the National Independent Bull Party (PNBK), Sukmawati of the Indonesian Nationalist Party (PNI) and Fachrur Razi of the People;`s Conscience Party (Hanura) were present.

Jakarta, NU Online General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi did appreciate the cultural collaboration between Soka Gakkai International of Indonesia (SGI-Indonesia), Indonesian Muslim Artists and Culturalists Institute (Lesbumi), and Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI). Hasyim expressed his appreciation on the sidelines of his meeting with Vice President of Soka Gakkai International (SGI) Mr. Kenji Yoshigo and his entourage at the PBNU headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday (10/7).

Iran blames West for 'artificially' raising oil prices, says war threat is a 'joke'

Kuala Lumpur, NU Online Iran's president has blamed the West for "artificially" raising crude oil prices, and dismissed fears that Israel and the U.S. could be preparing to attack his country as a "funny joke." President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, on a visit to Malaysia, told a news conference Tuesday that the global production of oil is much more than consumption, suggesting economics are not behind today's record-high prices.

Iran's Ahmadinejad says G8 "on road to precipice"

Netherlands bans Iranian students from nuclear studies

The Hague, NU Online The Netherlands will ban Iranian students from studying nuclear technology, a source of tension between Iran and world powers, at its universities, the government said Friday, AP reported. "It is forbidden... to grant Iranian nationals access to special training or teaching that could contribute to nuclear proliferation activities in Iran and the development of systems for transmitting nuclear arms," the foreign ministry said in a statement.
