Australian young Muslim leaders to explore Indonesian Islam

Jakarta, NU Online A delegation of young Muslim leaders from Australia arrived in Jakarta early this week to explore Indonesia Islam, Democracy and Interfaith Harmony, an Australian Embassy media release has said. Antara reported. "It`s important for young Australians to gain a better understanding of the role of religion in Indonesia and to share their views on how Islam contributes to diverse, democratic societies like Australia and Indonesia," Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer said as he welcomed the delegation of his country`s Muslim leaders.

Jakarta, NU Online It is unlikely anything will come of the media hype over the past few weeks about the keen competition between four global steel giants to acquire up to a 40 percent stake in state-owned PT Krakatau Steel, Indonesia's largest steel producer with annual capacity of 2.5 million tons. The headlines began after global steel giants ArcelorMittal, Tata Steel and Essar, all from India, and BlueScope Steel of Australia separately notified Indonesia's ministries of industry and state enterprises of their interest in acquiring up to 40 percent of Krakatau Steel.

Protest rally marks Yudhoyono`s arrival in Mamuju

Mamuju, NU Online Dozens of students staged a protest rally against the government`s plan to raise domestic fuel oil prices as President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono arrived in Mamuju, West Sulawesi, for a dialog with local farmers and fishermen in the country`s youngest province. The students held their rally in front of the Tomakaka University campus which lies on a main street through which the President Yudhoyono`s motorcade was expected to pass.

NU chairman: Hardline Islamic groups are now in trend

Jakarta, NU Online Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Said Aqil Siroj (Kang Said) said that the teachings of hardline Islamic groups have now easily been adopted and been in a trend. He said those easily adopting the teachings would tend to blame and consider other people as infidels. "What they only know is Islam instead of infidel. They tend to consider that they alone would go to paradise and others would go to hell," Kang Said said, adding the doctrine were now in trend in nature.
