IKAPMII expected to help reconcile PKB's internal conflict

Jakarta, NU Online The organization of alumni of Indonesian Muslim Student Movement (PMII) or Family Gathering Association of the PMII (IKAPMII) was expected to help reconcile internal conflict in the dueling National Awakening Party (PKB).   To meet the much-awaited reconciliation, the IKAPMII included two names having so far been in concfilct in the political party, namely Muhaimin Iskandar and ALi Masykur Musa in its Advisory Council.

Fuel up 28.7% as aid plans begin

Jakarta, NU Online After weeks of uncertainty, the government on Friday raised subsidized fuel prices by an average of 28.7 percent to help salvage the state budget, which has been severely strained by high-flying crude oil prices. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro told a press conference that per-liter Premium gasoline was being increased from Rp 4,500 (48 U.S. cents) to Rp 6,000, diesel from Rp 4,300 to Rp 5,500 and kerosene from Rp 2,000 to Rp 2,500.

NU of Australia: Govt should OK if Ahmadiyah is new religion

Canberra, NU Online The idea to make Ahmadiyah as a new religion and out of the pale of Islam as demanded by many is likely difficult to meet. Yet if the idea would come true, as consequence, the government should acknowledge Ahmadiyah as an official religion in Indonesia. Islamic schools need to focus on sciences

Jakarta, NU Online Islamic schools need to include more scientific and research studies, rather than trying to revive the glory of past Islamic civilization by focusing solely on theology, a seminar here heard Thursday. M. Ridwan Lubis, of the Religious Affairs Ministry's research, development, education and training center, said there had been little teaching of "rational sciences" at Indonesia's Islamic schools, which were initially designed as centers for "normative disciplines and spiritual enrichment".

Hasyim to criticize PKB's NU politicians

Jakarta, NU Online General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi criticized the attitude of a number of NU politicians in the National Awakening Party (PKB). He said the politicians were in need of NU involvement when they were in conflict. "They come to the PBNU because of conflict. If there's nothing they forget. Australia's NU will hold dialog on Ahmadiyah

The scholarly forum would be held at Australian National University (ANU), Canberra, Australia, on Friday (23/5).
