Kiai Mutawakkil replaces Ali Maschan Moesa

Surabaya, NU Online The leader of the Islamic boarding school (pesantren) Nurul Hasan Genggong, Probolinggo KH Hasan Mutawakkil Alallah was nandated Saturday (19/4) to replace KH Ali Maschan Moesa as chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Board (PWNU) of East Java. There were some 32 from 42 Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Branch Boards throughout the province attending a meeting to witness the fresh man replacing Ali Maschan following his candidacy in East Java's gubernatorial election that would reportedly be held in July 23rd ahead.

Digital 'pesantren' in Riau province

Pekanbaru, NU Online In cooperation with state-owned PT Telkom, Babussalam pesantren, or Islamic boarding school, has become the first "digital pesantren" in the province. The director of Telkom's general affairs division, Faisal Syam, said the digital pesantren, located in Pekanbaru, will provide the public greater access to information on Islamic boarding schools in the country, as well as giving the students skills in digital and information and communication technologies.

Khofifah to make devotional visit to the grave of KH Hasyim Asy'ari and Soekarno

Jombang, NU Online The candidate of East Java's governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa made Friday (18/4) a devotional visit to the grave of the founder the Indonesian biggest Muslim organization  Nahdlatul Ulama, KH Hasyim Asy'ari, located in Islamic boarding school (Pesantren) of Tebuireng, Jombang, East Java. Khofifah was accompanied by the caretaker of the pesantren KH Sholahuddin "Gus Sholah" Wahid. After making a devotional visit to the former great chairman (Rais Akbar) of the Nahdliyin-based organization, Khofifah who is also chairwoman of Muslimat NU made also a devotional visit to the grave of former Indonesian first president Soekarno, located in Bendogerit village, Blitar, East Java. In this place she along with the members of Blitar's Muslimat NU recited repeatedly what called as tahlil (the confession of faith: there is no god but Allah)

RI asks Timor Leste not to issue statement that could be misinterpreted

Jakarta, NU Online President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asked Timor Leste leaders not to issue any statement that could be interpreted as if there had been an element in Indonesia possibly involved in the shooting on February 11, 2008 of President Jose Ramos Horta. Speaking to the press at the Presidential Office here on Friday, President Yudhoyono said he talked with Ramos Horta on April 10 when the Timor Leste leader was being treated in Australia for gunshot wounds.

Police to protect Ahmadiyah activities, houses of worship

Jakarta, NU Online The National Police Headquarters has ordered the force`s rank and file to protect the activities and houses of worship of the Jamaah Ahmadiyah sect from acts of violence by any other group in society. "The protection is meant to prevent violent and anarchic acts from being committed against Ahmadiyah followers," National Police spokesman Insp Gen Abubakar Nataprawira as quoted by the state news agency as saying here on Friday (18/4).
