Dissension amid resurgence

Most of Muslim countries being part of the third world may be considered as colonized ones that got independence between 1940-1950. in the era of colonization, devide et impera was a common tactic. Ironically, the divide and conquer policy has not vanished while the country got its independence, and even become such a time bomb that can explode in the future. But this fact remained with little fuss without reconsidering the colonial elements of the conflict. It’s also regarded as home conflict that should be overcome the government itself. Yet amid the peaceful condition within the Muslim world a large range of conflicts between schools of thought, religions on the horrifying level and within a large-scale conflicts. These conflicts had formerly been on local or national scene, but the escalation is now very quickly and is capable of triggering global conflict. The raging of the conflict seem to have been realized by the leaders of the Muslim countries that this fact is out of genuineness.

President hopes ulemas` counsel make Muslims` life noble

Jakarta, NU Online President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said counsels from ulemas should make Muslims including state officials aware of their duties to have a worthy life and carry out people`s mandate honestly. "Advices from ulemas should change Muslims` way of life so that they can show noble attitudes and morals," the head of state told a meeting of Jakarta ulemas and respectful Islamic elders at the Islamic Center building here Sunday.

NU leader hopes Israeli presence at APU meeting not to cause trouble

Magelang, NU Online KH Hasyim Muzadi, chairman of the country’s largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), said he was hoping the presence of an Israeli delegation at an Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting in Bali later this month will not trigger conflicts in the country. "Indonesia is not responsible for the presence of the Israeli  delegation because it was not Indonesia that has invited them but  the IPU," the NU chairman said.

Free education sought for poor students

Jakarta, NU Online The National Commission for Human Rights called Wednesday for the government to provide free elementary education to the children of poor families. "The policy currently applied is merely free school fees in public elementary schools. It has yet to open wider schooling opportunities due to other expenses, including admission fees, books, uniforms, as well as transportation," the commission's deputy chairman, Zumrotin K. Susilo, said Wednesday.

Mudflow victims come to NU office for disappointed with the government

Jakarta, NU Online Numbers of Lapindo mudflow victims from the Tanggulangin Anggun Sejahtera I housing complex in Sidoarjo, East Java, come to the country's largest Muslim organization (Nahdlatul Ulama) office on Tuesday. Welcomed by the general chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulam KH Hasyim Muzadi, Hari Purnomo and Sukarto said the mudflow victims were really disappointed with the government's failure to handle the torrent of mud from a May 29 industrial accident that has overrun their homes, a turnpike and factories.
