Attended by dozens of students and teachers, the Pesantren Nawaese's "Prayer Night to Commemorate Sept. 11" began in the late afternoon on the Opak River bank in Wukirsari village, Bantul regency.

Hundreds of NGos to conduct anti-IMF seminar

Jakarta, NU OnlineHundreds of foreign non-governmental organizations from 37 countries would reportedly conduct an anti-IMF seminar in the Indonesia industrial island of Batam on September 15-17 ahead following the annual meeting of International Monetary Fund (IMF) on September 19-20 in Singapore. Surabaya, NU OnlineIndonesia’s Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari said on Friday (8/9) that her department would develop health posts at Islamic Boarding “Pesantren” Schools (poskestren) throughout the country. “It (poskestren) would be such a national program, (the establishment of ) the 200 health posts to pesantrens in East Java has remained an elicitation. Next, it would be replicated in pesantrens throughout Indonesia,” Fadilah said.

Hasyim suggests Islamic state as political movement

Jakarta, NU OnlineGeneral Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), KH Hasyim Muzadi called for nahdliyin (NU followers) to be aware of the idea of Islamic state (khilafah Islamiyah) as driven by radical Islamic groups. He suggested that the idea is not a religious movement but called as a political movement. “Islamic state is absolutely a political movement, not religious one for it strongly focuses on political aspects than religious ones (ubudiyyah). What it focuses is that the system of governance, not on how to establish such madrasa (schools), mosques, and create people’s prosperity, and so on,” said Hasyim while meeting figures of Preaching Institution of Nahdlatul Ulama (LDNU) at the PBNU Building, Jalan Kramat Raya 164 Jakarta, Tuesday (5/9).
