Thousands of members of Nahdlatul Wathon to attend its 71 anniversary

Pancor, NU OnlineThousands of members of Nahdlatul Wathon, the largest Muslim organization in West Nusa Tenggara province, attend its 71st anniversary in Pancor district, some 100 kilometers east of the provincial capital city of Mataram on Sunday (27/8). The celebration was also attended by a number of Cabinet ministers, including Education Minister Bambang Soedibyo and Forestry Minister M.S. Kaban.

Jakarta, NU OnlineThe country’s largest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), has expressed disagreement to proposals to abolish the death sentence as the capital punishment  would basically guarantee a more extensive life. "In the philosophy of law, there is no need to eliminate the death sentence, as capital punishment will  protect human life in a broader sense," General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi at the PBNU building, Jalan Kramar Raya 164 Jakarta, Thursday (24/8).

Indonesia expected to be more aggressive in handling bird flu

Jakarta, NU OnlineThe Indonesian government was expected to take more aggressive measures in dealing with  avian influenza (AI) cases which have been posing a threat to 29 out of 33 provinces in Indonesia. As reported by the national news agency Antara, the Indonesian government has to be more aggressive as many  AI cases have caused human deaths, Veterinarian of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) John Weaver said here Thursday after a meeting between the Indonesian government and its key partners in handling bird flu.

Jakarta, NU OnlineThe central board of Nahdlatul Ulama women organization (Muslimat NU) welcomed optimistically Wednesday (23/8) the three prospective foundations, namely Muslimat NU prosperity foundation (YKM), Muslimat NU educational foundation (YPM), and Muslimat NU pilgrimage foundation (YHM). “Hopefully, the three foundations can synergize themselves as part of addressing the people (ummah) through action and advise (bil hal and bil lisan),” said the chairwoman of Muslimat NU Khofifah Indar Parawansa while speaking along with an inauguration of the three foundations’ boards at the PBNU building, Jalan Kramat Raya 164 Jakarta.

PBNU urges govt to continue with its plan to send troops to Lebanon

Jakarta, NU OnlineThe general chairman of the central board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), KH Hasyim Muzadi called on the government, Tuesday (22/8) in Jakarta, to stick to its plan to participate in the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon despite Israel’s objection. Iran will fire ballistic missiles on Israel if attacked: cleric

Tehran, NU OnlineOne of Iran’s top hardline clerics warned on Tuesday (15/8) that if Iran is attacked by the United States and Israel, it will retaliate with ballistic missile strikes against Tel Aviv. “If they (the United States and Israel) want to carry out an aggression against Iran, they should be afraid of the day that our 2,000-kilometer (1,250 mile) range missile will hit the heart of Tel Aviv,” said Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami.
