Copenhagen, NU Online A Danish TV station said Tuesday it has chosen an Iraqi-born woman as winner of the Miss Headscarf 2008 competition, as the Nordic country debates Islamic traditions in the aftermath of a deadly attack on its embassy. Foxnews.com reported. Judges picked 18-year-old Huda Falah from photographs of 46 contestants in an Internet-based pageant organized by public broadcaster DR1's teenage show. Falah was chosen because the light blue Islamic headscarf was "a fantastic and shocking color," said Uffe Buchhardt, one of the judges.

Gus Dur loses two legal battles

Jakarta, NU Online KH Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid, the paramount leader of the National Awakening Party (PKB), lost two legal battles against his political foes on Thursday (12/6). In separate sessions, the South Jakarta District Court ruled in favor of Muhaimin Iskandar, who Gus Dur dismissed in April as PKB chief, and Lukman Edi, who the former president dismissed in 2007 as the party's secretary-general after President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono appointed him minister for underprivileged regions.

Jakarta, NU Online Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) would be ready to guide Ahmadiyah followers towards true basic creeds of Islam. All this is aimed at rejecting misleading teachings as declared by by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). NU expects Ahmadiyah not to redisseminate its teachings

Jakarta, NU Online General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul ULama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi gave comment following the Monday's issuance of  a joint ministerial decree (SKB) outlawing the activities of the Ahmadiyah Islamic sect. According to Hasyim the government's decision to issue the decree was really on the right track. He then called on Ahmadiyah followers to obey the decree signed by the Attorney General, Home Affairs Minister, and Religious Affairs Minister.

Govt hopes joint decree on Ahmadiyah can prevent conflicts

Jakarta, NU Online The Indonesian government expressed hope that the joint ministerial decree (SKB) on the Ahmadiyah sect, signed and issued on Monday (9/6) night, could prevent communal conflicts triggered by polemics about the sect. Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto after attending a cabinet meeting at the presidential office here on Monday afternoon said the government has through the SKB made a ruling against Ahmadiyah and the public pertaining actions of violating the law.

Hasyim: NU Legal Aid Institute does not help defend FPI

Malang, NU Online General Chairman of the CEntral Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi said that organizationally the Nahdlatul Ulama Legal Service and Aid Institute (LPBHNU) did not help defend the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) and its leader Riziq Shihab that is now on trial on charges of inciting his followers to make Sunday's violent action in the National Monument Square. Hasyim made the statement to clarify the acknowledgment of chairman of the LPBHNU Sholeh Amin at the Jakarta police headquarters on MOnday (9/6). As reported Amin said that the LPBHNU would take part in defending Riziq Shihab.
